The Windsor Senior Center sponsors many clubs that meet regularly throughout the year that are listed below. You are welcome to join at any time and membership to the Senior Center is free.
Adult Coloring Group: Coloring is not just for kids. Reduce stress, increase fine motor skills, and just relax and have a good time every day between 9:30 AM and noon in the Senior Center. All supplies provided. Free.
Arts & Crafts for Seniors: If you like to sew, knit or crochet, or have a special craft you would like to teach others, then Crafty Fingers is for you. Join this new group every Friday morning in the Senior Center craft room from 10:00 AM to noon. All skills and interests welcome. Storage is available. Just stop by or call 860-285-1992 for more information. Free.
Bingo: Daytime games are played every Monday and Friday from 1:00 to 2:45 PM. This is a popular activity but there’s always room for one more. Arrive by 12:45 to purchase your game cards at $1 per card. Evening Bingo parties are planned every third Wednesday of the month at 5 PM, with doors opening at 4:15 PM to purchase cards. Please bring exact money as we are unable to make change.
Bowling: The Windsor Sportsters’ bowling league meets every Monday from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM at Spare Time Bowling in Windsor Locks. Come enjoy lots of good fellowship and fun. This is a non-competitive, co-ed league which you can join anytime. No bowling skills are required. $12 for three strings. 860-688-6119 for information.
Chess Club: This new club meets every first and third Thursday each month at 10 AM in the Senior Center. Looking for new members. Call 860-285-1992 to sign up and for more information. Free.
Coffee Talk: Enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea as you discuss current events with other seniors every Monday and Friday mornings in the Senior Center café from 9 to 10 AM. Free.
Cribbage: Easy to learn and fun to play, this centuries-old popular card game is played every Wednesday at 9 AM. Come early if you need some instruction. New players can join anytime. Free.
Evening & Weekend Trips: Don’t stay stuck in the house because it’s dark or you don’t want to drive. We have trips to restaurants, shops, attractions, and museums several times each month during the evening and on the weekends. We provide the transportation for free and can pick you up and drop you off at your home address. Transportation for evening and weekend trips made possible in part by a grant from NCAAA and a $2 donation requested per person, per trip. 860-285-1992.
French Club: “Parlons Francais!” A club for those who want to brush up on their conversational French. Meetings are held the first and third Fridays of each month from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. Free.
Golden Fellowship Club meets from 1 to 3 PM at the Senior Center on the third Wednesday of each month. We feature a short business meeting followed by entertainment, raffle, and free refreshments, coffee or tea, and social time. We also offer lunch and show trips each month and occasional overnight trips. Informational flyers for our trips are located in the Windsor Senior Center. Everyone age 55+ is welcome to join. $5 per year. You don’t have to be a member to go on our trips. 860-758-7378 for further information.
Grocery Shopping within Windsor: Transportation to Geissler’s is offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning. Each Friday morning, we visit Price-Rite and other shops in the Windsor Shopping Center. Shopping begins at approximately 9 AM and you will have one hour of shopping time at Geissler’s and two hours at the Windsor Shopping Center. Call 860-285-1846 by noon at least two business days prior to the trip. Enrollment in the Windsor Senior Transportation program is required prior to scheduling a ride.
Hiking Club: Hike with the Happy Hikers on various trails in Connecticut. Hikes resume spring 2019. Call 860-688-8037 for more details. New member always welcome. Free.
Line Dancing: You won’t need a partner or any experience to join the line dancers from 1:30 to 3:00 PM on Fridays at the Senior Center. Great camaraderie and aerobic benefits. New participants always welcome. 860-688-4860 for information. Free.
MahJongg: Join this great group and start a new hobby. Beginners are always welcome. Games are played every Monday and Thursday from 1:00 to 3:30 PM in the Senior Center lounge. Free.
Mall Trips: On the first Tuesday of every month, the Dial-A-Ride bus takes seniors to Enfield Mall and on the second Tuesday of every month, the bus goes to the Buckland Mall in Manchester. The bus will begin pickups in Windsor at approximately 10 AM and will drop you off at the mall for shopping from 11 AM to 1 PM. Call 860-285-1846 by noon, two business days prior to the trip. Enrollment in the Windsor Senior Transportation program is required prior to scheduling a ride or receiving transportation.
Movie of the Month: Join us in the Senior Center Lounge for the Movie of the Month from 12:45 to 3:00 PM on the third Tuesday of each month. Transportation available. Free, including popcorn and soda. 860-285-1992.
Multi-Cultural Dance Group: Dance with instructor Josie to learn basic Hula, Polynesian, and dance movements from many other cultures as well, every Tuesday from 10 to 11 AM. All are welcome including those with walkers and wheelchairs. 860-285-1992 to sign up. Free.
Pickleball: Pickleball is similar to tennis, played on a badminton sized court with lowered nets, using paddles similar to ping pong paddles and a plastic ball. It's very easy to learn and a fun way to get your exercise. The senior play schedule is as follows: Mondays 10 AM to noon. Advanced Play - Tuesdays 9 AM to noon. Beginner/Intermediate Play - Wednesdays 11 AM to 2 PM. Advanced Play - Thursdays 10 AM to noon. Beginner/Intermediate Play - Friday 9 to 11 AM. All play. Free. 860-285-1992.
Quilting: Join the First Towne Quilters, and share some friendship and stitching on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. Bring your own projects or stop by to get ideas and help with a new project. Join us anytime. Free.
The ROLEO Club (Retired Old Ladies Eating Out) meets on the third Friday each month at a local restaurant from 9 to 10 AM. The club offers women age 55 or older an opportunity to meet and chat about a variety of topics. Cost is determined by what you order. Looking for new members. Call 860-285-1992 to join.
The ROMEO Gathering (Retired Old Men Eating Out) meets at Bart’s Restaurant, 55 Palisado Avenue, Windsor, from 8 to 9 AM on the second Friday of each month. This breakfast club gives a chance for men age 55 or older to meet and enjoy each other’s company. This is a welcoming group. Cost is determined by what you order.
Setback: The card players all gather in the Senior Center every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 to 2:45 PM to play setback. A great way to meet new people or catch up with old friends. New participants always welcome. Instruction provided if needed. Free.
Shopping Trips: Every Wednesday, our bus alternates transportation for seniors to Target and Stop & Shop in Windsor or to Wal-Mart and Big Y in East Windsor. The bus begins pickups at noon and you will have two hours of shopping time. Call 860-285-1846 by noon, at least two business days before the trip. Enrollment in the Windsor Senior Transportation program is required prior to scheduling a ride.
Square Dancing: The Windsor Whirlers meet every Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM through May in the Senior Center fitness room. Enjoy fast paced old-fashioned square dancing. No partner needed. Join anytime. $4.00 per class. 860-688-4780.
Tap Dancing: Held every Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Work on routines and learn the steps as you go. This is great fun and wonderful exercise that keeps the mind and body active. Free.
Trivia: Join us for Brainteaser Trivia on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 10:00 AM in the Senior Center café. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and camaraderie, put on your thinking caps, and keep your memory strong. Stop by or call 860-285-1992 for more information. Free.
Walking Club: Walk with the Jolly Jaunters every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 AM. Walks resume spring 2019. Call the Senior Center for a schedule of walking locations. 860-285-1992. Free.
Wii Bowling: We meet one the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month in the Senior Center Lounge at 1 PM to “bowl” using the Nintendo® Wii™. Any senior can play; you don’t need to have athletic ability, just enthusiasm. If you don’t know how to play, come a little early and we’ll show you how. Free.
Windsor Trail Riders: For seniors who enjoy bicycle riding and good company. Watch the monthly Windsor Seniors’ Newsletter for our Spring organizational meeting to be held in early or mid-April, 2019. We ride on multi-purpose trails in Connecticut and lower Massachusetts every Tuesday from April through October and welcome riders of all skill levels. WOW (Watch Our Weight): Meets every Wednesday from 9 to 11 AM at the Senior Center. Gain support and information to help take off weight and keep it off while enjoying some new friendships. New members always welcome. 860-688-2515.
Writing Workshop: Join us for our new workshop “Writing Your Lives” with Elizabeth Thomas, widely published poet, performer and educator. This workshop promotes creative literacy and the power of the written and spoken word, especially for seniors. Meets the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10:00 to 11:30 AM in the Senior Center. 860-285-1992. Free.
