Oliver Ellsworth Homestead
The Oliver Ellsworth Homestead (Elmwood) built in 1781, is the Windsor, Connecticut home of Oliver Ellsworth and his wife, Abigail Wolcott. Oliver Ellsworth (1745-1807) was a framer of the United States Constitution, author of the Judiciary Act of 1789 establishing the Federal Court System, and the third Chief Justice of the United States. This house-museum is architecturally significant and contains period furniture and personal possessions of the Ellsworth family. During Ellsworth's lifetime, Presidents George Washington and John Adams visited here. Elmwood is operated as a house museum by the Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution.
